Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg is pulling his $50,000 pledge to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) after his initial announcement drew backlash from parts of his fan base.

In a video uploaded today, Kjellberg said that he didn’t know much about the ADL when he made the pledge. It was only after uploading the video and seeing feedback about the organization that he admitted he “didn’t know a lot of things that surfaced throughout this whole thing about the charity.” He made the original announcement during an unboxing of a special YouTube Play button to celebrate surpassing 100 million subscribers.

THE ADL ONCE CRITICIZED PEWDIEPIE OVER ANTI-SEMITIC CONTENT

“I made the mistake of picking a charity that I was advised to instead of picking a charity that I’m personally passionate about,” Kjellberg said in the video. “Which is 100 percent my fault.”

Kjellberg previously addressed the criticism against his donation in a recently deleted tweet, acknowledging that “making a donation to the ADL doesn’t make sense to everyone, especially since they’ve outright spoken against me.” A spokesperson for the ADL told The Verge at the time that they learned about the “potential donation when everyone else did: when he made the announcement on his channel yesterday.”

The original announcement about his donation to the ADL comes after Kjellberg stated he wanted to move past his former controversies. Kjellberg first drew global criticism for paying two men on Fiverr to hold up a sign with anti-Semitic imagery in February 2017. He was then caught using a racist expletive during a gaming live stream on YouTube. Most recently, he tried to distance himself from a popular meme, known as “Subscribe to PewDiePie,” after it was used in the Christchurch terrorist attack in New Zealand earlier this year.

Kjellberg said he’s still going to donate the $50,000, which he received as a sponsorship from Honey. He hasn’t announced which charity will receive the money, but said he plans to take his time with it. The Verge has reached out to the ADL and Kjellberg’s team for further comment.

And not one word on the traffickng of tiny humans of the U.S. Foster Care System from the ADL.

It all started in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, where I wait to see end of hate begin.

Troubled history of suspect in beating of Berkley man at Detroit gas station

DETROIT (FOX 2) - The suspect charged in the beating death of a Berkley man after a car crash in July had his first run-in with the law 15 years ago - when he was just nine years old. His juvenile and adult record shows he's had a troubled life ever since.

Lawrence Davis and Tyler Wingate were nearly the same age when they met last month when the two got into a minor car accident in Detroit on July 22. Davis is accused of punching and beating Wingate to death after a crash at Livernois and Davison. Surveillance video from a gas station showed Wingate walking up to a man and being hit with a vicious right punch.

"The victim was defenseless, woozy, unarmed, acting very calmly and at this point in time, the defendant continued to brutally assault the victim in the case," said the prosecutor on Wednesday.

However, it was a final kick to the head before Davis fled that the prosecutor said was what killed Wingate.

A little more than a week after the fatal beating, Davis was arrested at an apartment on 8 Mile in Detroit. On Thursday, he was arraigned on the murder charge.

How did this happen? How did two 24-year-old men get to this point?

The answer for Davis is in the court records.

While he's not been convicted of the murder, Davis has had a life full of hardship and violence. On Thursday, his aunt told FOX 2 that it was all a mistake.

After Wingate's death, word started to spread that Davis had a difficult upbringing. His family didn't want to talk so the court records will have to tell the story.

Here are three contracts to start investigating when it comes to the origins of hate.

In Detroit and Wayne County, kids who commit crimes are processed through the Lincoln Hall of Justice - aka juvenile court. For Davis, it started in 2005, when he was nine years old and picked up for a curfew violation in Detroit.

Two years later, he was in trouble in Highland Park, the next year was his second curfew violation in Detroit, and over the next year, he would miss 83 days of school.

In February 2010, things got serious. He was ordered to leave the grounds of Stewart Academy when he punched a cop and was charged with assault.

Court records show that his father was absent  and eventually listed as dead.

In September 2010, Davis' mother died. The next month, he was caught in a stolen Dodge Intrepid.

He pleaded guilty and was on probation with grief counseling, mentoring, drug screens and tether. The court recommended tutoring, and sent him to his grandmother's home in a rough west side neighborhood, where life did not get any easier.

On March 23, 2011, Davis was charged with assault with intent to murder and, at the age of 15, was tried as an adult.

He pleaded guilty to weapons charges and was sentenced to between 29 and 57 months in prison. But the sentence was delayed and he bounced around youth programs and lived with relatives - while testing positive for marijuana and getting involved in an incident at his guardian's apartment complex.

By October 2013, when Davis was 18, the court ruled that Davis had "Received the maximum benefit from services provided and is no longer a danger to community or himself."

That may have been wishful thinking.

Two years later, just days before his 20th birthday, Davis pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. The following year, he was charged with domestic violence for assaulting his aunt.

That the case was dismissed when she failed to appear in court.

He's due back in court later this month.

CONYERS: Members of Congress Denounce Anti-Muslim Marches

"I am proud to stand against hate and will continue to call out bigotry and anti-Muslim hatred wherever we see it." said the Dean of the U.S. House of Representatives, John Conyers, Jr.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Thursday, June 8, 2017, Pramila Jayapal and her colleagues, held a press conference on the U.S. Capitol Grounds; The House Triangle, to speak out against hate and Islamophobia in the United States, and denounce anti-Muslim protests planned by the far-right group ACT for America.

ACT for America is identified as an by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The group plans to hold anti-Muslim protests in cities across the United States on Saturday, June 10.

White House seeks child-speech oversight

Roughly 150 various advocates — lobbyists for gays and lesbians, legislators, White House officials, at least one cabinet secretary and the first lady — gathered around President’s Obama’s bully pulpit in the White House Thursday to cheer for increased government monitoring and intervention in Facebook conversations, in playgrounds and in schoolrooms around the country.

No officials at the televised East Room roll-out of the White House’s anti-bullying initiative suggested any limits to government intervention against juvenile physical violence, social exclusion or unwanted speech. None mentioned the usefulness to children of unsupervised play. None suggested there were any risks created by a government program to enforce children’s approval of other children who are unpopular, overweight, or who declare themselves to be gay, lesbians or transgender.

“It breaks our hearts to think that any child feels afraid every day in the classroom, on the playground, or even online,” first lady Michelle Obama said.

“We’re going to prevent bullying and create an environment where every single one of our children can thrive,” the president said, as he announced a series of government actions intended to fund, guide and pressure state and local officials to adopt regulations and programs that would shield children from insults or social-exclusion as well as from physical harm.

But the lethal risks of additional federal school-yard regulation will be underlined May 2 in a California courtroom. Brandon McInerney was 19 days past his 14th birthday, and living with his divorced father, when he murdered Larry King, by shooting him dead in a classroom, said McInerney’s lawyer, Scott Wippert.

In the pending trial, “the evidence we will introduce is that [King] was bullying and sexually-harassing” McInerney, with the tacit approval of school officials who excused the harassment as legitimate expression of a female “gender identity,” Wippert said. The approved sexual-harassment took place on the schoolyard, in front of other kids, and it included offers of sexual favors and precipitated taunts from other boys. “It was outrageous,” said Wippert. When school officials refused to discipline King, McInerney shot him in front of a teacher who had given him the dress he was wearing, he said.

If the situation turned out differently and McInerney had killed himself, the “focus would have been on the school [officials] for allowing the [sexually themed] bullying,” Wippert argued. But that’s not what happened, and the local district attorney is now trying McInerney as an adult and charging him with first-degree murder for shooting and killing King, which could put him away for the rest of his life, Wippert said.

Gay advocacy groups, principally the New York-based Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, argue that kids who may be gay or lesbian need protection from taunts and insults, as well as from already-illegal violence, and that schools should promote acceptance of homosexuality. “GLSEN envisions a world in which every child learns to respect and accept all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression [and it] seeks to develop school climates where difference is valued for the positive contribution it makes to creating a more vibrant and diverse community,” according to a statement from GLSEN, whose founder, Kevin Jennings, now heads the anti-bullying program at the Department of Education.
