Perhaps, just perhaps, the reason why Gretchen Whitmer and the FBI did not inform Lee Chatfield, et al about the situation was, maybe, because he and his cohorts might have been the subject of something or another, indirectly related, but, hey, what do I know?

I know Lee got the Maddy Face.

I also know Gretchen never thanked the FBI, but she did blame Donald Trump.

Chatfield calls out Whitmer for not informing lawmakers of alleged plot

Michigan's House speaker on Saturday expressed frustrations with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer over what he called a failure to communicate with lawmakers about the alleged plot to overthrow the government and kidnap her. 

Lee Chatfield, R-Levering, issued a series of tweets Saturday, saying those in the Capitol were not warned of the plot to take hostages and there needs to be better cooperation going forward across the aisle. 

"Why weren’t we in the Legislature warned of the plot to take hostages at the Capitol? The plot by these terrorists was against us too. Why weren’t House sergeants warned?" Chatfield said. "You knew, and we weren’t even given a warning. We had people working in the building every day doing essential work, and their lives matter too."

Governor, we need to cooperate more. A better message needs to be sent. And now that a couple days has gone by since the plot to attack us both has passed, there are several points that I believe need to be made and questions that need to be asked. (1/7)

Zack Pohl, communications director for Whitmer, said in an emailed response that the governor "won't be distracted by the Speaker’s partisan attacks."

"She remains focused on bringing Michiganders together to keep people safe and save lives. We are not going to comment on an ongoing criminal investigation," Pohl said in the email. "If the Speaker has concerns with this successful law enforcement operation, he should direct them to the FBI and President Trump’s Department of Justice, which was in command.

Federal agents said Thursday they thwarted a plot to violently overthrow the government as well as kidnap and harm  Whitmer — a conspiracy that included visits to her home in northern Michigan and training with firearms and explosive devices.

The alleged plot mainly involved six conspirators unhappy in part about Whitmer's coronavirus restrictions, calling her a "tyrant." They wanted to create a "self-sufficient" society free from what they called unconstitutional state governments and discussed plans to storm the Capitol and take hostages, according to FBI documents filed in court. 

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel separately announced 19 state charges against seven other individuals pursuant to the state's anti-terrorism act, "all of whom are in custody and linked to the militia group Wolverine Watchmen."

On Saturday, Nessel tweeted a response calling Chatfield's comments disingenuous and saying the Legislature had a chance to ban weapons in the Capitol building back in September and never did. 

"Remember this gem all the way back in September? Legislators claiming they had no knowledge of the possibility of a tragic event at the Capitol are disingenuous at best," Nessel tweeted Saturday. "Want to protect those who work at the Capitol building? Pass legislation to ban weapons from Capitol grounds."

Chatfield also noted comments by Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist blaming "Michigan Republicans for the evil plans of these mentally unstable men."

Gilchrist told CNN's Don Lemon on Thursday night that the suspects in the kidnapping plot were "emboldened" by President Donald Trump and the "complicity and the encouragement of the Michigan Republican Party, who created the rhetorical space for them to plan these deadly actions."

Gilchrist noted some of those arrested had participated in protests at which GOP lawmakers also were present and had stood in the Senate gallery during session.

"For Republicans to be so flippant as to fraternize with these people while they were armed in the Capitol shows you where their priorities are at," Gilchrist said on the show.

"That accusation is inflammatory and untrue and does nothing to solve this problem. You chose to blame President Trump instead," Chatfield said Saturday. "The truth is, I started getting death threats to my family at my home the day you said my legislative actions would kill people. Realize that as well."

Pohl said that the same day the news of the alleged plot was revealed, Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, a Republican from Clarklake, spoke at a protest against the governor that was organized by Speaker Chatfield’s father, Rusty Chatfield.

"It’s time for Republicans, from the White House on down, to forcefully condemn violent domestic terrorists," Pohl said.

Placing blame

Earlier on Thursday, Whitmer laid some blame for the plot to kidnap her on Trump, whom she said didn't do enough to condemn white supremacists. She specifically mentioned the president's comments at the first presidential debate on Sept. 29 when Trump told the Proud Boys group to "stand back and stand by."

"Hate groups heard the president's words not as a rebuke, but as a rallying cry, a call to action," said the Democratic governor, who is also a co-chair of Joe Biden's presidential campaign. "When our leaders speak, their words matter. They carry weight.”

Trump slammed Whitmer on social media late Thursday night, saying Whitmer had called him a white supremacist instead of thanking him for federal authorities who filed the kidnapping plot against her. 

"I do not tolerate any extreme violence," Trump tweeted. "Defending ALL Americans, even those who oppose and attack me, is what I will always do as your President!"

Earlier, Trump administration and campaign officials fired back, arguing it is Whitmer who is trying to create divisions by saying the Republican president inspired the plot.

On Saturday, Chatfield said others in the Legislature have been threatened, too, but don't have the same resources to protect themselves. 

"They’ve received threats, letters and calls to their homes. These threats have been to both Republicans and Democrats, but they aren’t given security. They don’t have the state resources to build million-dollar fences at their homes. And we were targeted in these evil plots too. That’s why to overcome this, it will take a unified message and not political talking points or partisan finger-pointing. It will take leadership," he said. 

 Chatfield ended his message with a call for more unity.

"Now, I’ve been critical of many of your decisions this year during COVID. I’ll admit that. I’ve agreed with some decisions too. It’s important we have these debates. It makes us stronger. It ensures all voices of our state are heard. It’s how our process was designed to work. But we need to do it the right way. Blanket, partisan blame is wrong. It simply further divides us and causes more political strife," he said. 

"Hatred and violence are wrong, and that’s why I’ve continually denounced it. And I agree, it’s time to tone the partisan rhetoric and “the heat down” as you’ve said," Chatfield continued. "Will you do the same for President Trump? You’ve arguably been his biggest critic this year in the country. You even fundraised this week off this plot, now making it political, which is sad. Will the Lieutenant Governor do it to the entire Republican Party, of whom are millions of his constituents? This wasn’t standing tall. It was cheap. We can do this, but we have to make this decision together. Let’s back up our words with actions."

House GOP considering selling Blue Water Bridge to pay for roads

(FOX 2) - House Republicans are considering a proposal to sell the Blue Water Bridge that spans the St. Clair River in order to pay to fix the state's roads, per FOX 2's Tim Skubick.

Officials say the sale could raise between $500-800 million in one-time money.

"We're going to explore the option of perhaps selling ... It's clear on the table," said Oakland County GOP lawmaker Rep. Matt Maddock.

The Democratic vice chair of the House budget committee, Rep. Jon Headily, dismisses the idea as a "piece meal solution" that does not raise the $2.5 billion the state needs every year for the next 10 years to fix the roads.

The Blue Water Bridge links the U.S. and Canada, carrying international traffic between Port Huron and Point Edward and Sarnia in Ontario. It crosses the St. Clair River at the southern end of Lake Huron and connects both I-94 and I-69 with Highway 402.

The original Blue Water Bridge opened in 1938 and carries three lanes of traffic westbound, and the second Blue Water Bridge opened in 1997 and carries three lanes of traffic eastbound.

In U.S. currency, toll rates for drivers crossing from U.S. into Canada are $3 for cars, $3 for each extra axle, and $3.25 per axle for trucks and buses. Rates for those traveling from the Canada into the U.S. are $3.25 for cars/RVs, $3.25 for extra axles and $3.50 for commercial vehicles per axles.

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation's latest numbers, about 4.9 million vehicles utilized the bridge in 2008. They project that 14.5 million vehicles will use the bridge by 2021. According to the Federal Bridge Corporation, an average 14,000 vehicles cross the bridge per day -- 20,000 of a busy day with at least 6,000 being trucks.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer ran on a campaign to fix the state's crumbling roads. In March, she proposed a 45-cents-a-gallon fuel tax increase, which has been rejected by GOP lawmakers. Whitmer's plan would have allotted $2.35 billion in net revenue for Michigan roads which included a 45-cents-a-gallon increase on the state's gas tax. The $2 billion plan would increase the 26-cent fuel tax by 45 cents by October 2020.

In late April, a transportation budget advanced in Michigan's Legislature that would boost road spending but far short of the $1.9 billion net increase proposed by Whitmer. The Senate plan would fully implement 2015 road-funding laws a year earlier, so $132 million more is spent in the next fiscal year.

In late May, Whitmer said that talks with Michigan's Republican-led Legislature on her proposed fuel tax increase can "start in earnest" following the enactment of a bipartisan auto insurance overhaul, and there is no reason why a road-funding deal cannot be struck within a month. Her tax hike, the centerpiece of her budget proposal, has languished in the Capitol for three months. She said she expects to see legislative movement soon.

Whitmer again signaled that she will not sign the next state budget without a road-funding deal, due to how her $2.5 billion proposal would free up general funds that have been shifted to address deteriorating roads but which could be used for other priorities such as schools and her proposed scholarship program for college students. Budget legislation, she said, can be finished by the end of July.

Although GOP legislative leaders have rejected a 45-cent increase that would make Michigan's gasoline and diesel the highest in the country, they have not laid out their own plans except to support spending an additional $132 million a year earlier than planned and potentially ensuring that sales tax paid at the pump funds roads. The revenue mostly goes to schools and local governments under the state constitution.

House Speaker Lee Chatfield of Levering said he will not box himself in with an "artificial" deadline to complete the budget, noting that the next fiscal year does not start until Oct. 1.

"I think the first priority needs to be (to) have a responsible budget, and that's going to be our focus," he said.

Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey of Clarklake was reluctant to say how much additional road spending is necessary but agreed that "substantially more" is needed. He suggested working to finish the budget by July 1 and passing supplemental spending legislation in September if a broader roads agreement is reached.

"It's got to balance between the appetite of taxpayers and the capacity to deploy assets," he said, referring to concerns about how quickly road-construction projects could be ramped up at a time that a 2015 transportation-revenue plan is still being phased in.

Michigan Speaker Of The House Invites Trump To Speak In Michigan Like BiBi Did - Will Nancy Say His Name? Happy MLK Day 2019

It seems Lee Chatfield has a personal vested interest in issuing a formal letter, with the Great Seal of the State of Michigan, in his official capacity as Speaker of the House, to invite the President to deliver the State of the Union in the State Capitol of Michigan.

That sounds like they want to issue a symbolic announcement of a federal takeover, similar in fashion to when Congress issued formal letter to invite the President of Israel, to speak in the Congress.

Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which just so happened to come out Detroit, where I am sure there will be great fanfare to encourage Trump to accept Lee's invitation and deliver the message of "Jobs, Justice, Peace."

Boy, it would just be one of those "gosh-golly-geeze" moments where Nancy Pelosi would have to #sayhisname.

Michigan House speaker invites Trump to deliver State of the Union in Lansing

Lansing — Michigan’s GOP House Speaker Lee Chatfield has invited President Donald Trump to deliver his State of the Union address in the House chamber of the state capitol.

The invite comes as the president faces opposition from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who requested a delay of the Jan. 29 speech normally held in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., for alleged security concerns during the partial federal government shutdown.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has said the Secret Service and the Homeland Security Department “are fully prepared to support and secure the State of the Union.”

"Washington, D.C., may be bogged down in partisan politics, but Michigan is different," Chatfield wrote in his letter.

The letter echoes Chatfield's calls for cooperation among Republican and Democrats in Michigan, a priority he voiced upon becoming speaker last week, said Chatfield's spokesman Gideon D'Assandro. 

"...He wants Michigan to set the tone and show that leaders who disagree can still work together," D'Assandro said. "Washington, D.C., cannot figure that out, but the people of Michigan deserve better."

The letter prompted swift responses from liberal critics and Democratic state leaders. 

“If @LeeChatfield wanted to avoid ‘partisan gamesmanship’ he wouldn't pull stunts like this,” Sam Inglot of the Progress Michigan advocacy group wrote on Twitter.

If this is the case, then we have ourselves asset forfeiture of the trust funds because every corporation should hire a child.

Well, actually, these Privateers really did want to convert children into its new workforce and even attempted to change child labor laws, but it did not go over so well.

So, what they did was start to change the entire concept of disability to include age, or rather, children.

This is an Industrial Organizational predictive analytical model to maximize revenues and seize assets.

Someone is going to make a whole bunch of money off this population of chattel through social impact bonds.
