Voter Registration
New residents of Hamtramck may register to vote at City Hall, 3401 Evaline, Hamtramck, MI 48212, at any Secretary of State Branch Office, at certain state agencies, or by mail. Your voter registration is permanent; however, If you move from one community to another or change your name, you must reregister to vote. State law requires that you register to vote at the address shown on your Michigan Driver’s License.
You are qualified to vote if:
You are at least 18 years of age on or before the day of the election at which you wish to vote.
You are a citizen of the United States.
Close of Registration is now 2 weeks before election day. Anyone wishing to register to vote inside the 2 week window can do so at the City Clerk’s Office even on Election Day.

Update 2019:
In November 2018, Michigan voters overwhelmingly approved changes to Michigan Election Law. One of these changes is the ability to vote absentee (also known as vote by mail) without a specific reason. We encourage voters of all ages to call the City Clerk’s Office at 313-8001-5233 ext. 821 or stop by the window in City Hall and ask to be put on the “Permanent AV List”. Voters on this list will automatically receive an Application for Absentee Ballot for each election cycle every year. Spread the word to your constituents and e-mail contacts in town!
