Michigan Mackinac Policy Center Made A Substantial Error

Look at this crap.

"For more than 25 years, nobody has done more to fight corporate welfare in Michigan than we have."

The Mackinac Center for Public Policy
http://www.mackinac.org/

This was a Facebook post.

Yes, I called the statement of the Mackinac Center For Public Policy crap.

Seriously?

Really?

This is the think tank which has been advocating cuts in child welfare, eventually leading to the highest child poverty rates in the nation, right in the heart of its most heavily populated geographic area of the state, Detroit.

This is the only highly functioning think tank in Michigan and I was right there when it first started.

I also used to write the policies for the Michigan Democratic Party Platform, which is another organization just as dysfunctional when it comes to representing the interests of the people by ignoring the issues of children, who cannot vote nor give them campaign contributions.

The Mackinac Center did not originally start out to be such a chattel ranching organization of human capital.  It was an eager group of older gentlemen, lacking in melanin, who came together to organize the legislative side of government as the Legislative Council was, and still is, in complete disarray, and still is to this day.

Even the Michigan Constitution is a completely unorganized document which is currently choking on
The Michigan Constitution
and its amendments
its own distortion of Jenga-style amendments.

The majority of socio-economic policies of Michigan are so haphazardly constructed that they are disjointed beyond a nascent semblance of ever being implemented in the best interests of the people.

Jack McHugh was a fun guy when he lead the construction of Michigan Votes.  I want to say it was the first of its kind in providing the public access to the legislative process of voting.

So, I am not coming down to destroy the entire organization because there has been great good done, I am just saying the statement about fighting corporate welfare in Michigan is just a fraudulent statement.

How can one "fight corporate welfare" when it was in support of "Right to Work" policies which shifted the obligations of worker pay from the corporations to SNAP, Medicaid and tax write off food banks, by lowering wages, cutting hours, and creating dying-wage jobs, as opposed to living-wage jobs?

Then, how can one "fight" corporate welfare when the Mackinac Policy Center generated the talking points to eliminate the Michigan Business Tax and EITC.

How can you honestly keep promoting policies of poverty, when, in doing so you change the basic equilibrium of supply and demand?

If people do not make money, then how do they purchase your goods or is the plan to generate a cheap domestic labor workforce for exportation, reaping another layer of corporate subsidies in tax aversive behaviors?

I sincerely believe there was a typo and the statement should read as "working for corporate welfare".

Conyers: Governor Snyder’s “Right-to-Work” Policy an Affront to Michigan’s Proud Labor History

(WASHINGTON) – Yesterday afternoon, the Republican Majority in the Michigan House of Representatives approved two pieces of legislation drastically limiting collective bargaining rights in the state. House Bill 4003, which was approved 58-51, instituted “right-to-work” for public sector unions. A companion bill, Senate Bill 116, applied the same “right-to-work” limitations to private sector unions. This legislation was approved 58-52.  These bills also included an appropriation, which has the effect of immunizing these bills from being repealed via referendum at a later date.  Late yesterday evening, Governor Rick Snyder signed both of these bills into law. Representative John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) issued the following statement in response:

“This past February, I witnessed Governor Snyder testify on Capitol Hill that so-called ‘right-to-work’ legislation was not the best course for Michigan, and that the proposal was far too divisive. In less than a year, Governor Snyder has pulled a complete about-face,” said Conyers.

“I am appalled by the actions of Governor Snyder and the Republicans in the State Legislature, forcing through inflammatory legislation during the lame duck session.  It is clear that they have ignored the lessons of Michigan’s history. Our state’s economy was built on a foundation of mutual respect between labor and business, not misguided Tea Party ideology that Governor Snyder has recently signed on to.

“The ‘right-to-work’ bills signed into law are an attack on the civil and human rights of the people of this great state and serve as an inspiration to we who believe in creating an economy that works for all.  As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. reminded us, as far back as 1961, the ‘right-to-work’ law, ‘is a law to rob us of our civil rights and job rights.’”

Michigan Right-To-Work In Child Welfare

For those who have not been paying attention, there is a dramatic change in the way our society functions.  Some say the model is being updated, some say it is draconian.  Either way, something needs to be done and if there are no suggestions, you go with the best alternative solution.

In Michigan, protests are currently going on in the capitol on "Right -To-Work" Legislation.  Those who are against it are voicing their opposition.  Interestingly enough, no one has presented an alternative economic solution knowing that this day would come two years ago.  Blame it on the complacency of leadership or the conditioning of the self-sustaining individual, this socio-economic battle has boiled over into the realms of child welfare.

Yes, "Right-To-Work" has tentacles reaching into the industry of child welfare.  As everyone in Michigan has been politically distracted with the poli-economic role of the union in society, no one has been following the change in the largest industry in the state.  The largest industry in the state produces children, who will eventually grow up to become, hopefully, working adults.  That industry is Human Services, more specifically, child welfare, a multi-billion dollar industrial complex.

The following is from a fan who offers a unique, and feasible, alternative solution to the archaic model of child welfare, which, as it should properly be mentioned, has never produced any real significant results.

When a child is removed does not the State become the parent and when that child is passed to County Child Caring Agency do they become the Godparent or Surrogate parent? They often remain in their care for years. some remain from early childhood to young adulthood away from their Natural Environment.

Over the years while under the guidance of one or sometimes they are blessed with both parents of the system. Many suffer Physical, mental &/or emotional abuse.  Many go on untreated properly because of poor monitoring or receive no timely corrective treatment. And yet while removed from biological parents on abuse and neglect for years due to their inadequate measures of knowlege of proper avenues of seeking proper assistance & loosing their rights by these same acting parents which forfeits their will to continue on their learned path of seeking redemption because they are damned and quilty.

Yet, the new parent and godparent can continue for years of neglect and abuse and they are not investigated, charges cannot be filed against them, they do not have to appear in court and their own abused children cannot testify against them and they still get to keep their kids with no actions taken sometimes until that child becomes a young adult/ but as a young adult they still do not have the right after years to see their biological parent that have not been investigated when the saying that may work in the biological family favor,Time Brings About Change or Wow do they ever go back and shake the family tree as to the interest of others in the family that with a little guidance and financial assistance would be more economically feasable than what the parents of the state and godparents are getting to take care pf that child especially family a child knows and may run into in the streets like stranger rather than the stranger(s) he ends up living with over the years. Wow could be Mom or dad or grandparent or auntie and uncle or older cousins or siblings who is now doing great or always have been no one checked or asked the child of age their opinion.

In guardianship hearing does not a child at 14 have the right to say where they want to live even with a non-relative. If a guardian was granted 1/3 of what the parent of the state gets or the godparent gets maybe their would be more family or close family friends that child grew up around come forward rather than suffer the hidden abuse isn't that another term for immunity of the state or county child welfare agencies. Especially when in an unhealthy environment not conducive to them. So what is the difference I am not understanding and I live with this population of young adults!

Hey possibility could cause less physical.emotional or when it gets too unbearable the cross over to mental health.

What happened to family wrap around services?

What happened to family re-unification Funds?

What is the take on the Kinship Program ? ( Are their funds to help the families) Whatever are they about?

Flip the Coin ? Why are these same parents leaving the actual (see the visual marks & over 5-10 calls and children speaking out) CPS reported abuse cases in the homes !

Who actually trains these college educated, book learned parents of the state and the godparents they appoint

Maybe we should sign a contract with reality  T.V.

Bet those funds would prevent some not all biological child abuse and neglect, less homelessness( because as young adults when they leave the state parent or agency godparent wow they havee no biological ties so may prevent them from being homeless or the new awareness of teen and young adult suicide that even happens when their with their parents of the state and their godparents the agencies !

Hey think any private donors or foundations would like to be surrogate aunties and uncles to these young people! Some that are aunt there and never even received a chance to have the benefits of a biological parent or family member, the state as their parent or even an agency as their godparent because  There is a Solution that has worked in the past and is still working to-date.

Thoughts of Endearment to Our Children !

They should play Toss Up .The best parent or Parents Win.

Anyone else who has developed an alternative solution, please feel free to

The wrong answer for Michigan’s economy

In light of right-to-work legislation passing in Michigan’s House and Senate on Thursday, reporters have turned to EPI associate Gordon Lafer’s research examining the claim that right-to-work laws will boost the state’s economy.

In his report, Lafer explains that the legislation restricts workers’ rights by making it illegal for them to enter voluntary contracts with unions to collect union dues. He also shows that right-to-work laws do not boost job growth in states that adopt them—and actually lower wages and reduce benefits for both union and non-union workers. ‘RIGHT TO WORK’ The wrong answer for Michigan’s economyVoting is beautiful, be beautiful ~ vote.©

Conyers: Governor Snyder Putting Divisive Policies Ahead of Michigan’s Working Families

(DETROIT) – Yesterday, Republican leadership in the Michigan State Legislature, alongside Governor Snyder, unexpectedly announced their support of right-to-work legislation. Later in the evening, the Republican controlled Michigan House of Representatives voted to approve the legislation 58-52 and the Republican controlled Michigan Senate passed a similar bill 22-16. Representative John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) issued the following statement in response:

“After promising to govern Michigan as a unifier, and even stating that so-called ‘right-to-work’ legislation was not on his political agenda, Governor Snyder has gone back on his promises and turned his back on Michigan workers,” said Conyers.

“Michigan’s proud history was built by the working men and women of this state, and the labor movement has and continues to play a monumental role in building our middle class. Expanding the middle class to include an increasing number of families in Michigan will require a robust labor movement, not an embattled one.

“I strongly urge Governor Snyder to reject this divisive ‘right-to-work’ measure that was crammed through the State Legislature during the lame duck session. Working families in Michigan are counting on allies in their public officials, not adversaries.”
