Right-wing activist: ‘Kind of gratifying’ Conyers named me ‘on the way down’
Right-wing activist Mike Cernovich on Sunday ripped Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) for calling him an “alt-right” blogger responsible for raising claims of sexual misconduct against the congressman.“It’s kind of nice, it’s kind of gratifying that a member of Congress on the way down throws a shoutout to Mike Cernovich,” Cernovich said in remarks live-streamed online, adding that he does not associate with the alt-right movement.

Conyers announced Sunday he is stepping down as ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee pending an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment.
“I deny these allegations, many of which were raised by documents reportedly paid for by a partisan alt-right blogger,” Conyers said in a statement.RIP John Conyers. BuzzFeed News reported last week that Conyers settled a wrongful dismissal complaint in 2015 with a former employee who alleged she was fired because she would not “succumb to [his] sexual advances.”
Other staffers alleged that the Democrat made requests for sexual favors, inappropriately touched staffers and used congressional resources to transport women that they believed he was having sexual relationships with at the time.
The BuzzFeed report was based off documents provided by Cernovich, who provided them to the outlet after reportedly offering to pay $10,000 for the records. BuzzFeed said it independently confirmed the documents’ authenticity.
Cernovich said the reporters at BuzzFeed who broke the story haven’t gotten enough credit for doing so.
“In all seriousness, it is bullshit because I gave them the documents, but they did the work,” Cernovich said.
Cernovich said he acquired the documents and thought they looked “good to go.” However, he reached out to BuzzFeed News for advice on how to handle them, and they told him he couldn’t just publish them.
So, Cernovich turned the documents over to the news outlet, which published a story last week detailing the claims against Conyers.
Addressing his motivation for providing the documents, Cernovich said, "I want these deals out. I don’t like Congress, I don’t like the government."
Cernovich, a Trump supporter who has pushed conspiracy theories like "Pizzagate," has strongly disassociated himself from the movement known as the "alt-right."
In a video posted to his YouTube channel last August, Cernovich said he was originally open to the label because he considered the term an alternative to the "mainstream right." However, he later rejected the label because he felt the neo-Nazi movement took it over.
