After Sessions Admits Inaction To Secure U.S. Elections, Nadler & Schneider Lead House Judiciary Democrats In Demanding A DOJ Briefing On Election Security

Washington, D.C. – Led by Ranking Member Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Representative Brad Schneider (D-IL), sixteen Democratic members of the House Committee on the Judiciary wrote to U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions to request a briefing on any efforts by the Department of Justice to secure the next cycle of federal elections.

At the Committee’s recent oversight hearing, Rep. Schneider asked the Attorney General about the efforts of the Department to protect our elections from foreign interference in the future: “given your acknowledgement that this is a serious, complex matter that is deserving of real review, specifically what steps have you taken to protect our elections next year?”  Attorney General Sessions responded: “I have not followed through to see where we are on that.”

Today’s letter was signed by sixteen members of the House Committee on the Judiciary, including Representatives Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Brad Schneider (D-IL), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), Steve Cohen (D-TN), Hank Johnson (D-GA), Ted Deutch (D-FL), Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), Karen Bass (D-CA), Cedric Richmond (D-LA), Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), David Cicilline (D-RI), Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Eric Swalwell (D-CA), Ted Lieu (D-CA), and Pramila Jayapal (D-WA).
