Child Welfare Needs To Be Discussed In Presidential Campaign

This is the first time I have seen a presidential campaign actually speak upon the children who are victims of the nation's immigration policies.

These children did nothing wrong but become victims of a child welfare system which is costly and reeks harm on multiple levels.

Hillary Clinton continues to ignore issues of child poverty which have no borders.

Child welfare is a discussion so desperately needed to be brought to the national stage and focused on its failed policies, starting with Medicaid fraud.

THIS IS COURAGE: Bernie Sanders’ Wife, Jane, Challenges Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Racial Profiling. Stands Up for Refugee Children.
Jane Sanders speaking with Joe Arpaio on conditions of immigrants in detention.

She also spoke to refugee children from Central America:

“Everyone talks about the immigrant children, but they never see what we’re leaving behind in our countries,” she said. “We don’t come here because we want to be here, we come here because we’re fleeing.”

Sanders said at the end of the meeting that she was moved by the stories she heard and that what they’ve had to endure “is not right.””After hearing your stories, I won’t forget them,” she said as she broke into tears. “You can count on my husband. We hope that he will be president but he and I will be around no matter what happens, and we will be working on your behalf.”
