One Breakdown Can Mean Losing Your Kid Forever

Indeed, a 2012 presidential commission report found that “parents with psychiatric disabilities experience the most significant discrimination when they attempt to exercise their fundamental right to create and maintain families.”

Here is a quick list of what is considered as "psychiatric disorders for parents" in child welfare:

  • unemployment
  • low income
  • having a child out of wedlock
  • divorce
  • homosexuality
  • former foster youth
  • crying in court
  • not crying in court
  • separation anxiety
  • no separation anxiety
  • too many friends
  • not enough friends
  • being non-white
  • being multicultural
  • having a child with disabilities
  • being in school
  • filing grievances
  • testifying in front of state legislature
  • talking to the media
  • posting on social media
  • being blind
  • being deaf
I believe I have made my point.
