Dear Friend,
The number one story in America today is the scandal at Penn State. It's a story about the failure to act, and the failure to protect those who need protection the most.
That is why I want you to know that I take seriously my oath to protect and defend the people of the State of Michigan, especially those who are most vulnerable. Here are three examples:
- This month I went to court to dissolve two abortion clinics located in Saginaw and just outside of Lansing. This comes after receiving complaints documenting the improper disposal of unborn babies in a dumpster outside one of the clinics. I am Pro-Life and proud of it, and I will use my office to protect the health and safety of mothers and their children, including the unborn.
- For the first time in Michigan history, I am prosecuting an individual under our state's Human Trafficking law. This is modern day slavery, and it must be stopped. I am committed to a new fight against the enslavement of our children. Human Trafficking is the second-largest - and fastest-growing - criminal industry in the world, after drug trafficking. Thanks to the Michigan State Police and the FBI for their help in the investigation of this heinous crime.
- Just last month, I launched the Michigan Cyber Safety Initiative (CSI) for the new school year. Every day, predators target our children on the Internet, and Michigan CSI gives children and parents the tools to keep safe. Michigan CSI also tackles the problem of Cyberbullying, the fastest-growing form of bullying in the country.
We all have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. As you share this holiday with family and friends, please take time to thank those who keep our neighborhoods and our country safe: police, firefighters and the soldiers, sailors, Marines, Coast Guard and airmen who protect our homeland.
Have a Happy & Blessed Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Bill Schuette
Attorney General
