Arizona Republic columnist Laurie Roberts talks about instances when Arizona's Child Protective Services fails to protect children in its care from further abuse. She discusses her struggle to gain access to records in cases of a fatality and near fatality that, if made public, can help hold the agency accountable by giving the public a better understanding of what went wrong.

i wish i knew how or what to do to have cps stopped. even accountable for what lies they get away with telling in court.for all the documentation falsly documented and bambulseing the family into believing they shouldnt make waves. i hate every single one of them involved in my daughters case. they took the girls away from me , how could i not be a part of the case. they wouldnt even let me in the court room, yet the intake prognosis on the girls was :very clean, nurtured,loved, house clean, food in fridge. no reason to be removed from home. after 6 to 8 months we even had unsupervised visits. until they decided again to give us a new case manager, which turned everything totally around. and that was after numerous reports that i made to the umbudsman office of the non visitation that was going into its 6th week. everything went downhill after that. they made my daughter sytart all over again because they said they made a mistake. a year and a half of abiding by their rules , jumpiong through numerous hoops . just to see how far they could push us. i hate them even the last day in court they told my daughter in front of the judge that the court should cut her maternal rights so she could go take care of her sick father and let her mother live with her. it is not uncommon for a single parent to live with their family. the economy sucks. they have torn our loving family full of aunts and uncles and extended family apart. the mother, my daughter, i believe she has totally lost her mind and will to live. they grouped her into a society that because u once was you still are and will never change. then tell me, why all the money spent on family presorvation. when all they do is rip and tear you apart the way my grandaughter did so many times when they pulled her away after each visit we had including our last visit when i tried singing itsy bitsy spider with her and she put her hand over my mouth .....she said it made her sad.???? IO HATE C P S.....
