Maine Children's Alliance Calls for Giraffe Award Nominations
We are now accepting nominations for the 17th annual Giraffe Awards, given to those who "stick their necks out for kids."
Since 1995, MCA has recognized those who do extraordinary work on behalf of children in communities all over Maine. The annual Giraffe Awards program has been so successful in calling attention to the achievements of dedicated volunteers, professionals and organizations that MCA has adopted the giraffe as its symbol for its ongoing efforts to "stick our necks out" to improve the well-being of children, youth and families in Maine.
"Those who advocate for children are often unsung heroes," says Dean Crocker, MCA president and CEO. "The Giraffe Awards offers a chance to call attention to the amazing work that people are doing in communities across Maine to help our young people in ways that have lasting and widespread effects."
The Giraffe Awards recognize winners in different categories, including a "President's Award," outstanding individual award, youth award, business award and organization award. Past winners have included people working in children's mental health, youth camps, Maine businesses that have been generous to young people, volunteers, educators and many more.
Maine Children's Alliance hosts an annual event, Champions for Children, to celebrate and honor the Giraffe Award winners. This year's event, scheduled for November 10 at the Freeport Hilton Garden Inn, puts a fresh emphasis on kids, with young people helping with every aspect of the event--from musical entertainment to technical support. The event will also feature giraffe artwork made by area students for the occasion as part of an art contest run by MCA.
The Maine Children's Alliance (MCA) is committed to improving the lives of all Maine's children, youth, and families. By collecting and analyzing data on children and their health, economic and demographic status, we seek to link research to practice and public policy. We regularly bring diverse groups together in coalitions that support policy initiatives that benefit children, providing oversight in state policy arenas and serving as a resource on children and family policy issues at the local and national levels. MCA is a focused, substantive, and nationally respected voice for all Maine children. Please join us. Donate to the Maine Children's Alliance today. Your support will help us continue our work to improve the lives of Maine children and their families. |
This is my nomination I submitted.
Legally Kidnapped should receive the Main Children's Alliance Giraffe Award for the endless and tireless daily dedication of compiling and maintaining the only database on the child protection industry, in the world. At the personal risk of retaliation, Legally Kidnapped has exposed the industry for what it is.
Legally Kidnapped (LK) has advocated for and served children and families by allowing their personal horror stories of fraud, waste and abuse to be published. As the court system fails to provide access to justice and continues to gag the victims of the child protection industry, LK has inspired individuals to stand up and speak out, armed with the latest information on the industry.
LK was inspired by Maine foster care system's ability to allow children to be raped, torture and drugged with psychotropic medication to live lives of incarcerated suffering while the state's Medicaid program was billed.
I take this time, as a national expert of child policy and personal advisor to John Conyers, Jr., U.S. Representative, to nominate Legally Kidnapped, as this work has been the catalyst to launch national investigations by the Department of Justice and Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General into health care fraud, initiate national collaborative partnerships in Youth Violence Prevention, and influence major reform in federal legislative oversight of the child welfare industry as a whole.
