Michigan Terminates Parental Civil Rights

The only information I have is what was provided in the news.

From what was stated, the murder charges were dropped as it was determined to be accidental.  Now, the mother is fighting to stop termination of parental rights.

Listen to the list of charges the, well I guess it was not a county prosecutor, Guardian Ad Litem read off. It does not adhere to State Law.  But then again, not much else in Michigan child welfare follows the rule of law.

What happened to providing services?

Prosecutors: Gory home makes Johnson unfit mom

As prosecutors and child protective services fight to keep former murder suspect Laura Johnson from reuniting with her two sons, new details have emerged in the increasingly bizarre story, including what greatly alarmed police and prosecutors to begin with, and why they might have suspected foul play.

Johnson was charged with second-degree murder on Sept. 24 after her husband Lloyd Johnson, a local attorney died at an area hospital. The charges were dropped this week after an autopsy revealed he died from complications of an old wound, exacerbated by several other ailments, including diabetes and obesity.

In a petition to terminate her parental rights, filed with the Oakland County Family Court this afternoon, following arguments this morning in open court, prosecutors say Johnson should not be allowed to reunite with her sons, ages 8 and 10, because of grave concerns she may harm them. The children remain with their father, Scott Hills.

Among the allegations in the petition:
Johnson, 46, told investigators she had been performing surgery on Lloyd Johnson for more than a year, using a scalpel to perform “debridgements,” the cutting away of dead skin and tissue to allow new skin to heal. Such procedures are usually performed by surgeons. Lloyd Johnson reportedly told investigators at the hospital in the hours before he died that he was sometimes unconscious when she was cutting him, that she was taking samples from his body and storing them in the family freezer, and that he feared she was going to kill him.

At the time he was hospitalized, according to the report, the wound had recently been “debrided,” exposing his tailbone and spine, and causing great blood loss.

Johnson has a history of violence, prosecutors say. She was charged with assault and battery on Lloyd Johnson’s ex-wife, Teresa Johnson, as well as breaking into Teresa Johnson’s home in March 2008. The charges were eventually dismissed in 2010. Other witnesses told investigators she physically assaulted Teresa Johnson in September, repeatedly punching her.

Child Protective Services should just go through all local police reports and remove children from the homes of anyone who has been charged with a crime, including civil infractions.  This would include events such as traffic tickets and littering because these parents do not pass the State background check established in the settlement agreement with Children's Rights.

Remember, just because there are funded mandates to provide services and resources does not mean that it actually has to be done.
