Lawsuit: Miss. isn't protecting its foster kids
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A children's advocacy group wants a federal judge to appoint someone to take over Mississippi's foster care system.
The group Children's Rights made the request Tuesday in documents filed in U.S. District Court in Jackson.
Among other things, the group claims 350 Mississippi children are in unlicensed foster homes with people who haven't been properly screened or trained.
The court filings are related to a 2004 lawsuit in which Children's Rights sued Mississippi.
The lawsuit was settled in 2007, and the state agreed to make improvements. But Children's Rights says little improvement has been made and foster children are in danger.
The state Department of Human Services and the governor's office had no comment.
