For example, the government is contemplating giving all the children presently living in Apna Ghar, Merces, in adoption to families who might want to take them and care for them. Gadkar said presently, there are 96 children in Apna Ghar from ages between a few days to about 15 years.

From these, the government has put 34 children in boarding schools in Goa where they are studying in classes between standard I to standard XI. But the foster care for children scheme is not only for Apna Ghar children. It is for all children who lack parental care for reasons that may range from orphanhood to single working parent, or disabled parent or parent working abroad.
