Federal Courts have PACER. Now the States are beginning to allow public access to court records through electronic filing and record keeping. It will take some time before there is any form of economic feasibility to implement similar electronic recording requirements under the current political and financial climates.
Ultimately, the Courts of the world will allow universal public access to records which will expand the way we think beyond our wildest dreams.
My forethought of the day is: "What about child welfare and juvenile court records? Will they go electronic?"
House Bill 4064: Authorize all-electronic court records
Passed 105 to 3 in the House on March 6, 2013, to allow court papers and records to be filed and kept electronically, and allow courts to charge an extra fee for electronic access to records. The bill replaces a number of statutory record keeping requirements, in some cases specifying instead that these must be in accordance with rules established by the state Supreme Court.
