HHS Inspector General Testifies On Ending Medicaid and Medicare Fraud

Health care fraud, waste, and abuse cost taxpayers billions of dollars every year and require focused attention and commitment to solutions. The Affordable Care Act provides additional authorities and resources that will significantly enhance our effectiveness in fighting health care waste, fraud, and abuse in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Through the dedicated efforts of OIG professionals and our collaboration with HHS and DOJ partners, we have achieved substantial results in the form of recoveries of stolen and misspent funds, enforcement actions taken against fraud perpetrators, improved methods of detecting fraud and abuse, and recommendations to remedy program vulnerabilities. General Levinson, the DOJ partnership has proven to only scratch the surface to the astronomical levels of Medicaid fraud in child welfare.  My question is simple.  Due to a culture of secrecy in child welfare, when will the same Medicaid program integrity standards be applied to child Medicaid programming?
There is only one way to approach the obstacles of secrecy in child welfare, and that is to fight fire with fire through sealed filings of false claims.
