Michigan Disqualifies Candidates From Primary Ballot

State of Michigan, State Department Board of Canvassers staff reports on the qualifications of candidates for the August 7, 2012 primary elections.

The report has determined the following federal candidates unqualified to run for office based on insufficiencies of nomination petition signatures:

Peter Konetchy, U.S. Senate
Michael Stahly, U.S. Representative District 7
Michael Magdich, U.S. Representative District 8
Thaddeus McCotter, U.S. Representative District 11
Ethan Frasier, U.S. Representative District 86

The agenda did not reflect the eligibility challenges of the 13th Congressional District Candidates filed with the Wayne County Clerk's Office.
The clerk's office also is reviewing the petitions of four other Democrats who submitted signatures for the 13th -- state Sens. Bert Johnson of Highland Park and Glenn Anderson of Westland, state Rep. Shanelle Jackson of Detroit and Wayne-Westland school board member John Goci -- after challenges were filed against them. The only Democrat who doesn't face a challenge in the race is U.S. Rep. John Conyers of Detroit.
According to a representative of the Board of Canvassers it is speculated that any challenges may have been elevated to a state court jurisdiction.

In my conversations with the Board, I identified that there does not exist referral mechanism for any form of electioneering malfeasance (election fraud).  In a recent Auditor General report, the focus was on voter eligibility.  No mention of questionable and improper activities of campaign staff.

Much of the national focus has been on voter fraud but there seems to be a national trend in the issues of election fraud, a subject removed from the public purview.

This is a legislative initiative I will be introducing upon my successful election to office.
